About
Established in 1984, Baumley Nursery & Garden Center quickly became a staple to the local community as a reliable source of quality plants and professional knowledge to meet all gardening needs. In 2024, Baumley Nursery celebrated its 40th anniversary, owed to the strong reputation of its service, the finest quality plants, and a trusted residential design and build operation that continues to earn top reviews by customers. Our 13 acre growing operation is located right nearby to ensure our trees are grown in the same soil and climate as your own backyard.
“Over the years, we have seen businesses like ours disappear as a generation of agricultural enthusiasts holding tremendous knowledge, experience and love for plants retires from such an important part of the horticulture industry that has made New Jersey the Garden State,” says owner Jeff Baumley. “If not for the loyalty, dedication and collaborative spirit of our team, we could not have existed for 40 years through changing times. We are proud to remain in operation four decades after opening our doors and it is a lifetime privilege to serve our neighbors throughout the Princeton, Lawrenceville, Skillman, Belle Mead and South Brunswick communities.”
Owner Jeff Baumley pursued a career in horticulture beginning at Rutgers University Cook College, graduating in 1980 with a BS degree in Plant Science/Horticulture and MS in Weed Science. Funding in all agricultural programs was booming at Rutgers during this time, focusing on fruit and vegetable research, plant breeding, turf research, and public education and awareness in its role as a Land Grant University. As a result of highly knowledgeable, experienced and enthusiastic professors, students were well-educated and ready to pursue a range of opportunities upon graduation. It was a dream come true for Jeff to use his knowledge and love of plants to establish a garden center and share his passion and talent with the public.
As the nursery industry grew in the 1980s, so did Baumley Nursery, establishing a distinguished garden center, landscaping and growing divisions.
Baumley Nursery is a longstanding member of the New Jersey Nursery and Landscape Association, offering our team ongoing educational opportunities to keep up with the latest developments in our industry. We also regularly attend horticultural seminars at Rutgers to stay current with the latest agriculture developments, including insect disease issues and plant-breeding research, as new disease-free varieties are continually being developed. The Rutgers alum connection has been a valuable asset to the ever-changing environment we face with climate fluctuations directly affecting our agricultural environment. Jeff has been honored to lend his expertise to the community, serving as a technical advisor to the Franklin Township shade tree commission for 15 years. Baumley Nursery is NJ commercial pesticide license holder for horticultural applications.
